A beautiful sunset… but where’s the rest of the rainbow?
Ex-cyclone Oswald brought some big swells to Sydney beaches today. Manly was looking pretty messy early this morning after last night’s storm, with a torrent of dirty brown run-off spewing out of Queenscliff lagoon into the sea. South Manly offered some decent waves for those who were game. Here’s a few photos I took this afternoon.
Wow. The wild weather that has caused so much devastation in Queensland arrived in Sydney today. Ex-tropical cyclone Oswald drenched the city and churned up the surf. I’ve battened down the hatches and hope that my ageing window frames survive the storm. The boys went for a sail on Sydney Harbour this morning before the weather turned really ugly.
It’s the spring equinox today (according the Australian Bureau of Meteorology), which means that day and night are equal duration. Technically it’s when the Earth’s axis is perpendicular to the sun. I think! Anyway, we had a beautiful sunrise at Manly at around 5:43 this morning.
It’s been a very warm start to spring – the flowers are loving it! Here’s a shot I took with my iPhone of Sydney Harbour.
It’s the first week of spring and we’ve had a run of beautiful, crystal clear days. There’s not been a great deal of surf though, but the early birds are getting what they can.
The last day of winter. A beautiful morning, but still a bit too cold for pre-dawn laps.
What a contrast from last weekend. Offshore winds flattened the surf making great conditions for snorkelers, divers and SUP-boarders.
Big winds this weekend – enough to blow dogs off chains…. or yachts off moorings.
I haven’t posted for a while. Partly because it’s winter and the days are short — I leave for work in the dark and come home in the dark so I haven’t had much time to get out with my camera. Shame because winter is beautiful here — the air is crisp and clear and when it’s not raining the beach is awesome. Hopefully I’ll see some whales cruising past soon. In the meantime, here’s a selection of photos from my cloud collection. Remember, I have warned you before, I’m a cloud nerd. (Click on the thumbnails below to view the gallery)
